Posts Tagged ‘positive sides to bipolar’

I’ve come across a recent study by Lancaster University. It’s only short, but highlights how people with bipolar have seen positives from having it.

OK, so I recently posted My Own Challenge, basically saying how I want to post positive things on bipolar & positive articles depicted in the media.

Below I’ve linked an article I’ve found in Bipolar Magazine.

Accentuate the Positive

Please let me know what you think & if there is anything you want to add.

I’ve decided to set my own challenge, although the deadline for this is open. I’m kind to myself like that.

I read another blogger’s post recently & it touched upon how when they go through other blogs & the media interpretation of bipolar, it is generally the negative aspects that are highlighted. It got me thinking & I’ve found myself coming to the conclusion that they were right, most of what I read is about how tough it is etc.

Now don’t get me wrong it is tough at times with bipolar & for some nearly all the time, but I believe there are enough people in the public eye who have made a career & in so doing, have utilised their creative side (a lot of which comes from bipolar) to their advantage. I’ve recently posted about Bipolar in the Media & at the bottom is a list of names I quickly found on Wikapedia, detailing some people with bipolar. A lot of them are singers, actors & comedians, which I see as part of the ‘Arts’ side of entertainment & so may have gained from having bipolar to enhance their creative sides.

So my challenge to myself is twofold… Firstly I want to write more posts on the positive aspects of having bipolar. Secondly I want to find media articles that give a positive slant to bipolar. I think the latter will be harder, but I intend to find them. I do have some journalist friends, so I may need to bop them over the head into writing a positive piece or two. You know who you are, you’ve been warned :) If you don’t see the warning, it serves you right for not looking at my blog…

A few positive things I’ve gained from bipolar of the top of my head? A better understanding of myself, meeting many of you fine bloggers & it has been known for me to write poetry for my wife (she likes it too, I think…).

If you’re not sure why these may not be linked to bipolar, ask me.

If you think this self challenging business is a good idea, tell me below?
