Well the visit to the Psychiatrist went well. I’ve only seen this one once before, but I’ve built up a good rapport with him. This hasn’t always been the case! I had one who was ready to say I was fine until I figured he hadn’t even even read through my medical history. He then did so in front of me & made out he’d made some big discovery. Strange how you get a doctor who sees a patient without even looking at their history. Surely that’s the most basic & fundamental thing a doctor should do when seeing a patient for the first time.
Anyway as I said yesterday went well. I went to get a blood test to see how the current meds I’m on are interacting in my system. He will then decide if they need amending, dosage wise. He said there were around 4 options we can go down, but didn’t want to go through them just yet in case option one worked. I’ll find out by the middle of next week if I need to increase my dose of Sodium Valporate from 1,000mg to 1,200mg.
Thanks for all your support on my previous post, it was much appreciated

Really glad it went well.
My experiences with psychiatrists haven’t always been good: I once turned up to see a new psychiatrist who hadn’t even got any of my 12 years-worth of notes on my condition. When I told him I was diagnosed Bipolar he didn’t believe me and told me it was my hormones! I wanted to kill him!
But thankfully he eventually put me on Lamotrigine- ahhhhhhh…..what a relief!
Sodium Valproate worked for me also, but I wanted to change due to weight gain and tiredness on it.
Hope your increased dosage helps you.
The fact they don’t lose their licence is shocking!
I am glad it went well…the other doc, I would turn him in to the medical board..unreal.
Yep you’re right
I’m so glad to hear it all went well for you.
As for your previous psychiatrist, what a lame excuse for a doctor. I’ve had my share of horrible experiences with doctors (not psychiatrists though, other doctors – I’m thankful mine has been great) not wanting to truly listen and delve into the history of things, and it’s beyond frustrating. I think such doctors are in the profession purely for the money. That may be an incorrect assessment, but I can’t help but think that way when they have made me feel as if I was just another slab of meat on their table. I mean if they can’t be bothered to look into the history, than what on earth are they even in such a profession for in the first place? Especially when it comes to mental illness diagnosis. History is at the core of it.
Ok, well I guess I better end my rant.
I’m just glad that you moved on from that psychiatrist and are now with one who actually listens and wants to help you. Doctors like those, in my opinion, are the ones who in the profession because they truly want to help people.
Thanks Summer, & I think you’re totally right.
